Samoa Seven New Hat Names

Manu Samoa Sevens coach, Muliagatele Brian Lima, has named a capped player in the squad for the Los Angeles and Vancouver legs of the World Rugby Sevens Series. Fijian men to help coral reefs

Fiji’s men’s netball side has been named to help Fiji Mutiara in their Netball World Cup campaign. The 18-member squad will take on Mutiara in a warm-up match from March 27-30. Executive director Vivian Koster said the men’s team will be the best coach for the Pearls. He announced that they will hold the championship in May and plan to invite several international men’s teams to compete this year.

Big ball won in Apia

Champions Samoa and the Cook Islands capped an exciting final day of Oceania Champions League qualification with a big win in Apia on Wednesday.

Tupapa defeated Maraerenga FC and American Samoa’s Ilaoa and Toomata 8-0 in the second game of the tournament, while the Samoan champions Lupe Ole Soaga defeated Weitongo FC Tonana 9-0.

The winner between Tupapa and Lupe Ole Soaga will go through to Friday’s final, but the Samoans only need a draw to equalize on goal difference.

Third place for the New Caledonia badminton team

New Caledonia won bronze after defeating Tahiti 3-2 in the mixed team medal match at the Oceania Badminton Championships. In another match in Auckland, the Cook Islands lost 4-1 to Tonga to finish fourth. Australia beat New Zealand 5-0 in the final to win their sixth mixed team title.

The surfing competition is in the water

The Rangiroa Pro and Rairoa Horue surf events are back this year after a break in French Polynesia. Both events will be held at Avatoru Pass in the Tuamotu Islands. Most of the competitors will come from Hawaii, as well as tourists from the US mainland and French Polynesia.
